So, I'm going to do the alphabet posting thing but I'm doing it my way. I'm going to do the whole alphabet but not in any kind of order.
Today I'm starting with the letter E.
Eight Belles was the runner up in the Kentucky Derby yesterday. We watched as Big Brown did as promised and came up from the back and won. But, I as Eight Belles was slowing down, her front legs gave out and she broke both of her legs. They put her down on the spot. I saw her laying there and I couldn't watch anymore. I know it was the humane thing to do and I'm glad they did. But it was so sad.
I'm not a big fan of animal races. I have a huge soft spot for animals, all animals, and to see them being bred for this just doesn't seem right to me. Greyhound races, horse races, etc ... I don't like them. I know that horses love to run and are probably very competitive when put in this type of situation, but to me, it just doesn't make it right. To me, it is abuse. I can't be the only one who thinks this.
I am ashamed that I did get caught up in watching yesterday as that was what was on TV where I was and everyone else was watching and talking about who was going to win. Those horses are magnificent. They are gorgeous creatures but to push them so hard in such a tight space is asking for one of the jockey's or one of the horses to get hurt.
These horses are so young when they race in the Derby and I just don't think it's right. I don't think it's right now matter how old. Even for the Southern tradition that is the Kentucky Derby. Is it just me?
As I watched the news, I cried. I couldn't get away from it. So, I cried. Right there in front of everyone. I know I'm a wuss but I can't help it. How sad.
So, my tribute today is to that beautiful creature, Eight Belles.

love youuuu
Thanks for the birthday wishes!! You are precious!
I don't know if I ever commented on your blog look, but I LOVE it. I think it everytime I see it.
I need to be better at commenting!!
glad you're doing the alphabet game...and yes--you should be allowed to do the letters in any order you wish. however, don't even try to get by without posting anything for "x". if i had to do it, you do too! :)
You're not the only one. The fact is if you look at it the last two derby's have resulted in two horses having to be put down! This should be a sign to the racer people that maybe it's not a good idea to have large animals run at a breakneck speed. Don't look at them to stop. I mean the Derby is a cash crop and it's a bumper one at that. I would think that if people started to boycott they'd stop doing it but it would take a pretty serious amount of people to do that before they'd stop!
I hated hearing about what happened to Eight Belles...it made me sick. So sad! I have mixed emotions about horse racing...I just wonder about pushing these young horses to the breaking point. It's not right.
Hey, hope all is good in your neck of the woods!! :)
Michele

i don't think it's right either.

I would have cried with you T.....damn...so sad.
I might try the alphabet thing when I can get back to blogging regularly....sounds kind of neat. I will do them in reverse order I think....just to be a pain in the butt.
